1. Not Okay, Cupid by Heidi R. Kling is a Ya Romance that mixes together a couple of themes that I love. I love stories of revenge, where the main character is trying to get back at their ex. I also love stories where the main character falls in love with their best friend's brother. This story mixes together both of those!2. The main gist is that Hazel is dating this guy named Jay, who's kind of lame. She doesn't think he's lame though. She loves him. But then she finds out that he's secretly dating her best friend Kimmy. Uh oh. Hazel is heartbroken until Felix (Kimmy's brother) suggests the perfect plan. He suggests that the two of them fake date to make Jay jealous. Will the plan work? Or will it crash and burn?
3. I liked Hazel and Felix for the most part. I felt like their feelings for each other were a little rushed though. It would have made more sense to me if one of them had secretly liked the other one for a long time but instead it was just like, the two decided to like each other and so they did. Not as romantic as it could have been.
4. I liked Felix a lot. He seemed like a bad boy, except he wasn't actually bad. He was sweet to his mother. He was sweet to Hazel. He liked to make weird french fry dip combinations. He's a surfer. What's not to love?
5. Part of the story takes place around Valentine's Day so it could even be a holiday read. I'm one of those people who likes to read holiday books around the holidays. haha Just gets me in the spirit, I guess!
If you like cute YA romances, I would recommend this story for you.
Take care,
Marian

Not Okay Cupid eBook Heidi R Kling Reviews
What works I'm a huge fan of Kling's. NOT OKAY CUPID is a lighter change from her edgier PAINT MY BODY RED. Fast-paced sweet romance that has a 80s movie feel going for it. Think modern SIXTEEN CANDLES.
I also love how readers see both points of view. We see not only Hazel's reaction to the betrayal of her boyfriend(seriously, what so-called best friend would suck face with her friend's boyfriend RIGHT before Valentine's Day? I hated Kimmy right from the start.) We also see inside the mind of Felix who isn't as shallow as Hazel and others think.
Kuddos for the banter that had me giggling more than a few times. The text and email exchanges also give readers insight into Hazel and Felix's growing relationship.
Loved Hazel's mother. Even with her quirkiness with following the latest health fads? She seems very loving and concerned about Hazel's plight.
There's also an awkward scene when Hazel does get an invite to the Valentine's Dance. I only thought what would happen if no-one got invited? But this scene and her reaction work really well.
Fast-past sweet romance that has a perfect plan of revenge turn on it's head. Fun banter exchanges and with an ending reminiscent of the Taylor Swift song YOU BELONG TO ME meets SIXTEEN CANDLES.

This book is seriously making me smile SO much that my gums are literally hurting! Narrated in both the main character's opinion, it really let's you know what is REALLY happening inside their heads. I simply adore this book, but I just felt that the plot has been used very many times. The whole 'fake boyfriend turns into a really one', you know what I mean? Don't get me wrong, this was a great book, but it's just not very original.
It starts off with the main protagonist, Hazel, who catches her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend. Yikes. Of course, if you were put in that position, you would totally feel that way, won't you? So she runs off crying, and then her best friends BROTHER (also the main character) decides to help her simply because he can't stand his sister's actions. Felix (the brother's name) decides to be her fake boyfriend, so that the cheating boyfriend will get jealous. This plan does work, but the two fakers start to fall for each other, then things start to go unplanned.
Did I forget to mention that Felix is a total player (and super hot) and that Hazel is a star student? They really are the most unlikeliest of couples, but I think that they bring the best out of each other.
I bought this during the holidays, and I literally finished it in less than 24 hours. TOTAL PAGE TURNER. That, my friend, is how you determine whether it's a good book or not. Every sentence of this book just kept me wondering "What's going to happen next?" I LOVED this book, squeaky clean, and recommended to ALL teenage girls to read.
